According to Madison police, Wisconsin employee Jack Del Rio was arrested the morning of November 8th for allegedly operating a motor vehicle while intoxicated. According to the report, a car driven by Del Rio crashed into a street sign and destroyed a fence. Officers on scene noted that he “showed signs of impairment.”

“We take such matters very seriously and continue to gather information,” Wisconsin said in a statement to ESPN.

Del Rio joined the Wisconsin staff in August as a senior advisor to coach Luke Fickell. This is his first foray into the college ranks after decades of experience in the NFL. This includes various trainer stations. Del Rio managed the Jacksonville Jaguars from 2003 to 2011 and received another opportunity to manage a franchise with the Oakland Raiders from 2015 to 2017. In those two stints, he posted a combined record of 93-94 with a total of three playoff appearances, but never made it past the divisional round.

Del Rio, a former linebacker at USC, made a name for himself as a coach on the defensive side of the ball. He got his first big opportunity as linebackers coach with the New Orleans Saints in 1998 and was named defensive coordinator of the Carolina Panthers in 2002. He also served as defensive coordinator for the Denver Broncos (2012-14) and Washington Commanders (2020-23).
