Kirby Smart calls Georgia player, Alabama transfer celebrating with Ole Miss fan an idiot

Kirby Smart was unhappy with Georgia defensive back Jake Pope for his postgame antics after the Bulldogs lost 28-12 to Ole Miss.

“What an idiot. Just stupid,” the Georgia coach said of Pope, a transfer from Alabama, according to On3. “I haven't seen it until today. He's embarrassed. He is upset about this. This is obviously a childhood friend that they grew up playing with in Buford. I hadn't seen him in ages. Just not really smart.

“But to be honest, I don't have time to waste energy on this. Do you know what I'm saying? My focus is on Tennessee. I’m not really worried about that.”

Pope was part of a video that went viral after he was seen celebrating on the field after the loss after Ole Miss fans stormed the field. It turns out he was celebrating with a buddy he attended Buford High School with.

The Alabama transfer played three games this season. Pope spent two years at Alabama and played twelve games, mostly on special teams.

Jaxson Dart threw a 10-yard touchdown pass to Antwane Wells Jr. in the third quarter and No. 16 Ole Miss beat No. 2 Georgia for a 28-10 victory.

Caden Davis kicked five field goals as Ole Miss earned its third straight victory. Ulysses Bentley had a 9-yard touchdown run in the first quarter.

A rain-soaked Ole Miss student group stormed the field with 16 seconds left, causing a delay. The scene was repeated after Dart kneed her.
