“Science is still science”: The US remains committed to the climate fight despite Trump’s victory, says Podesta at COP29

BAKU, Azerbaijan (AP) — America's top climate diplomat John Podesta told foreign officials on Monday that the U.S. remains committed to fighting climate change even if President-elect Donald Trump is not.

His comments came as the fallout from last week's election reverberated in the hallways of global climate negotiations called COP29, which began on Monday.

“This is not the end of our fight for a cleaner, safer planet. Facts are still facts. Science is still science. The fight is bigger than one election, one political cycle in one country,” Podesta told reporters.

“While the United States federal government under Donald Trump may put climate action on hold, the work to mitigate climate change in the United States continues with commitment, passion and conviction,” he added.
