Atlanta Braves acquire Nick Allen in trade with A's

We have a deal! It may not be a big deal, but it's certainly one of them The Professions of all time! These are two trading partners who know each other well, although this deal is nowhere near the blockbusters they have made in the past. The Atlanta Braves have teamed up with the Athletics to complete a deal that will send minor leaguer Jared Johnson to the A's in exchange for infielder Nick Allen.

At first glance, this is clearly a move where “organizational depth” is on everyone’s lips. Allen finished last season with a .175/.216/.247 slash line with a .207 WOBA and a 33 WRC+, resulting in a total of -0.6 fWAR over 41 games and 105 plate appearances. He has a career wRC+ of 53 and now would be a good time to show you the only home run Allen hit in 2024.

By the way, that was his ninth career home run. For what it's worth, Allen was fine as a defender and it's very likely that if we see him play for the Braves, he'll likely be used as a defensive backup and bench option. You can't go wrong with adding depth to the organization, right?

In the meantime, Jared Johnson is headed to the A's, who will certainly be hoping that Johnson can develop into a reliable backup once he's ready for the big games. Johnson spent all of 2024 in High-A as a member of the Rome Emperors and will likely pitch in Double-A for most of 2025 as well. Johnson also made the honorable mention of our staff's preseason minor league top 30 prospect rankings, so the A's may get a good spot here. We'll see!
