Man accused of shooting and killing patients at Chester Co. nursing home – NBC10 Philadelphia

A woman has died after being shot by a man who then shot himself at a Chester County nursing home Thursday, officials said.

Investigators are treating the incident as a murder-suicide, Chester County District Attorney Christopher de Barrena-Sarobe said Oct. 24.

Officials outside the Manatawny Manor Retirement Home aren't saying much about the man and woman involved, but the 89-year-old woman who was killed was a patient.

The woman was in her room at the nursing home when the 90-year-old man arrived and shot her, officials said.

Authorities said the man had been to the facility before and was known to have visited the victim.

The prosecutor did not want to say what relationship the two people had to each other.

According to police, the 90-year-old gunman was hospitalized with a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

Investigators are currently still on site collecting ballistic evidence.

Barrena-Sarobe said there was another patient in the room where the shooting occurred, but he was not physically injured in the incident.

Police said they know the identities of the man and woman, but officials are not releasing them at this time.

The district attorney said he plans to prepare an indictment in the case.
