A man in Tuluksak has been charged with attempted murder after Alaska State Troopers said he allegedly shot another man in the foot and fired at other people in the community sometime in the early morning of Nov. 8.

Officers said they arrived in the lower Kuskokwim River community later that day based on reports that several people were drunk and firing firearms and that at least one person had been shot.

After an initial investigation, officers said they determined that 28-year-old Peter Napoka allegedly shot an adult man in the foot and shot others. While a cordon was being set up around a residence where Napoka was staying, he fled on foot armed with a rifle, according to police.

After an unspecified period of time, police officers said Napoka surrendered and was taken into custody.

Napoka was charged with attempted second-degree murder, seven counts of aggravated assault and two counts of misconduct with a weapon.

His next hearing is scheduled for Nov. 19 in Bethel District Court.
