30-year-old arrested and killed in connection with shooting of man on Derby day

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WAVE) – Louisville police have arrested a man in connection with a homicide in the Shelby Park neighborhood on May 4th.

Eliyahu Perkins, 30, was arrested on Monday, November 11th and charged with the murder of 29-year-old Jeffery Wilson.

Wilson was found dead in the 1300 block of Preston Street on the day of the Kentucky Derby.

LMPD said they obtained surveillance footage from the time of the incident that showed a Jeep on camera. They stopped the vehicle the day after the shooting. Perkins and a female driver were in the car, and police received the information from Perkins.

Police said they interviewed both of them, and the woman admitted to driving Perkins on the day of the shooting to the 1300 block of Preston Street, where he walked between the houses where Wilson was later found dead. Police said Perkins admitted to being in the area at the same time Wilson was shot. According to LMPD, Wilson was a saved contact on Perkins' phone.

Perkins is currently being held at Louisville Metro Corrections. He is expected to be arraigned on Tuesday.
