5 teens were hospitalized after a chase for a stolen vehicle ended in a crash in Wake County

CARY, N.C. (WTVD) — Five teenagers were taken to hospital after a chase ended in a crash Monday.

The Wake County Sheriff's Office said officers attempted to stop an allegedly speeding Hyundai Sonata on Interstate 40 around 7 p.m

The driver failed to stop and a brief chase ensued on I-40 near Cary Towne Boulevard, during which the driver lost control and crashed into a tree on the on-ramp to I-40 at Cary Towne Boulevard.

No other vehicles were involved. The sheriff's office later clarified that the suspect vehicle was a Hyundai Elantra.

The driver and four passengers, all teenagers, suffered injuries that were described as non-life-threatening.

During the chase, officers learned that the Hyundai had been reported stolen.

Charges are pending.
