Anthony Mackie pays tribute to Ryan Gosling's career

If it can be said, and Anthony Mackie has it said, the new Captain America has “made a lot of guys famous.” At least that's the claim he sticks to in a new video titled “Anthony Mackie's Memories.”

Why does Anthony Mackie say he made Ryan Gosling famous?

In the charming and funny 14-minute clip full of truly fascinating anecdotes, the actor goes through almost his entire filmography, telling silly, unique stories from his time on various sets and reflecting on the career he's made for himself while making other guys at the same time famous.


“You know I made this guy famous,” Mackie says jokingly, pointing to Gosling’s face on the poster for her 2013 film. Gangster squad – the second time the two men appeared on screen together. “We made his first film together.”

The film in question is from 2006 Half Nelson – wasn't actually Gosling's first film (let's not forget, The notebook came out in 2004 and Remember the Titans was a movie from 2000. Sorry to bash you like that, man), but Mackie has a point here too. Half Nelson was the first film to earn Ryan Gosling an Oscar nomination, so you could say it was the film that legitimized the once and future Ken doll's career.

But that doesn't mean Gosling didn't act like the future three-time Oscar nominee. According to Mackie, Gosling was a bit, well, disgusting by his standards as he recounted an impromptu moment involving that The Guy case and a wild cat.

Despite his appearance being that of a grumpy old man, Harrison Ford appears to be one of the healthiest Hollywood stars around.

“So we shot it in New York. One day we were in Brooklyn, we were out by the harbor… and a cat comes by,” Mackie explains in the clip. “No one knew where this cat came from, no one examined this cat, no one subjected this cat to vasectosis. Where does this cat come from?”

In a moment that eventually appeared on screen, he added: “Ryan picks up the cat, pets it and starts rubbing the cat. And I say, 'Yo, you're gonna catch something!' This cat was gross. She looked like a creature in the “Thriller” video. That's how she walked.

Continuing to emphasize his horror, Mackie exclaimed, “He picked that shit up, man! He picked up the shit! The boy is wild. True story – ask him!”


The whole video is delightful to watch – Anthony Mackie has actually appeared in so many films over the years that one might forget his lengthy resume in its entirety. But you wouldn't be forgiven if you didn't watch the clip above, because who doesn't love charming behind-the-scenes stories from other actors they've worked with? This even includes crossing an international border on a camel!
