Small businesses want suspected burglars to stay behind bars after a recent crime spree

LAS VEGAS, Nev. (FOX5) – Several small business owners are calling for a suspected burglar to stay behind bars following his latest alleged crime spree after police reports say he attacked a mall two years in a row.

FOX5 first brought you surveillance video of thieves breaking into a podcast studio at Maryland Parkway and Pebble Road by breaking through a wall. The victims were notified of an arrest in late September, and Las Vegas Metropolitan Police named suspect Shawn David Morrow as the perpetrator of the crime.

“I recognized Morrow immediately because I had investigated him in the past and arrested him for numerous other burglaries,” a detective said in the police report.

At least one of Morrow's recent cases has been transferred to district court. Several current charges in Las Vegas Justice Court include business burglary, possession of a stolen vehicle and grand larceny of a vehicle.

Morrow is being held without bail. On November 6, Morrow appeared in district court but refused to be transported.

One of the recent burglary victims, a smoke shop in the shopping center at Maryland Parkway and Pebble Road, said Morrow targeted her last year. A 2023 police report names Morrow as a suspect in a March 2023 burglary: He is said to have stolen a gun, nearly $2,000 worth of cigarettes and a computer.

The smoke shop owner tells FOX5 off camera that he is frustrated that the suspect was released from prison and allowed to commit more crimes and target him again.

In June 2023, Morrow was arrested on additional burglary and theft charges, including breaking into this smoke shop. According to court records, several charges were dismissed at trial last fall. Records show Morrow checked himself into a treatment center earlier this year. He was also given a suspended sentence of up to two years.

“The fact that this guy was in prison … and then released so he could do it again was very frustrating,” said Matthew Kadish of Las Vegas Podcaster Studios.

“This is just a blatant disregard for the rule of law from this guy. I really just hope so [the courts] If we go through with this, they understand that this guy isn’t going to learn a lesson and he’s not going to get better,” said co-owner Alex Almony of Las Vegas Podcaster Studios.

According to the previous court hearing, Morrow's next appearance was rescheduled for Nov. 18.
