UConn police are investigating after the incident at Connecticut Hall on Thursday

The University of Connecticut Police Department is currently investigating after an incident occurred in the dining room at Connecticut Hall on Thursday evening. According to university spokeswoman Stephanie Reitz, one person indicated by hand movements that they were carrying a weapon. The person also reportedly shouted at students to “get on the floor.”

UConn police concluded there were no weapons at the scene and no one was injured. Reitz said everyone involved in the incident has been identified, but the investigation is ongoing.

“Police determined there were no weapons or other dangerous items present and no injuries were reported,” Reitz said. “The individuals responsible for this incident have been identified and the investigation remains open and active.”

Reitz also said those involved in the incident could face “sanctions under the Student Code of Conduct, up to and including expulsion,” as well as possible criminal charges.

The Student Code, which can be found on the UConn Office of Community Standards website, lists behaviors and actions that constitute a violation of the code. The list includes “harmful behavior” and “dangerous behavior,” among several other behaviors.

According to the Code, harmful conduct “includes, but is not limited to, the actual threat or actual physical assault or abuse, and also includes harassment.” For the purposes of The Student CodeBullying is considered a form of harassment.”

Endangering behavior “includes, but is not limited to, conduct that endangers or endangers the health or safety of any person, including oneself,” the code says.

Guidelines for dealing with allegations and investigations can also be found in the Student Act. With regard to sanctions, the student regulations contain descriptions of the procedures for warnings, academic probation, academic suspension and finally expulsion.

When asked about details of the incident or a possible connection to hazing or assaults by the fraternity, Reitz said the university could no longer discuss it while the investigation was ongoing.

This is a developing story and will be updated as new information becomes available about the ongoing investigation.
