Boston Dynamics uses the electric Atlas robot in new videos

Boston Dynamics just released new videos showing its Atlas robot moving engine covers from one place to another. It's the first time we've seen the new all-electric Atlas robot perform work-like tasks, and there are some interesting new updates.

The robot is able to correct its mistakes and maneuver autonomously and even adapt when someone makes changes to the work environment.

For the first time he is also shown with finger-like appendages. One of the robot's “fingers” starts on the bottom of its hand to help lift the engine cover, then pivots up to the top of the hand to clamp it and hold it in place as the robot moves it to its goal carries.

It appears that Boston Dynamics has applied the same principles of hypermobility to the robot's new grippers as it does to the rest of the robot, which is able to rotate its legs and torso in different directions.
