A North Carolina man charged with murdering a 7-year-old daughter targeted the child's mother, police say

MAXTON, NC (WMBF) – A Maxton man is behind bars, accused of killing his 7-year-old daughter after he opened fire on an occupied car.

Maxton police arrested 31-year-old Dedric Page in connection with Sunday's shooting and charged him with first-degree murder, attempted first-degree murder and other weapons offenses.

Officers responded to East Graham Street just before 2 p.m. for a child suffering from a gunshot wound. EMS treated the girl at the scene, but she later died at the hospital.

Maxton Police Chief Schirra Johnson identified the girl as Quazariya Williams. Her mother told police that Page was Williams' father.

Johnson confirmed to WMBF News that police believe the mother was the target of the shooting. There were five people in the car that was shot at, including the victim and her mother, Johnson confirmed.

Page is currently housed at the Robeson County Detention Center.
