Matt Eberflus: The decision to fire Shane Waldron was made consciously and respectfully

The Bears officially announced the dismissal from offensive coordinator Shane Waldron on Tuesday morning.

Waldron was hired this offseason after the Bears released Luke Getsy — who has since been hired and released by the Raiders — in the hopes that he would boost the offense with Caleb Williams as the first-round quarterback. However, that didn't happen and the Bears pulled the plug on Waldron after suffering two straight losses without the team scoring a touchdown.

Thomas Brown will now become the third offensive coordinator in Matt Eberflus' tenure as head coach, and Eberflus released a statement regarding the move as part of the official announcement.

“After evaluating our entire operation, I concluded that it was in the best interest of our team to take the direction of our offense in a different direction. “This decision was well thought out and made consciously and respectfully,” said Eberflus. “I would like to thank Shane for his efforts and wish him all the best for the future.” Thomas is a smart offensive mind who has experience managing plays with a collaborative mindset. I look forward to his leadership of our offensive coaching staff and his plan for our players.”

With the Bears' bye week already over, Eberflus Brown needs to hit the ground running and show immediate results to make something of the season. If that doesn't happen, it's unlikely Eberflus will be involved in decisions about the Bears' direction in 2025.
