FC Cincinnati midfielder Marco Angulo died Monday from injuries sustained in an October accident in his native Ecuador. He was 22.

The Ecuadorian Football Association announced his death on Tuesday.

Angulo was a passenger in a single-car accident southeast of Quito on October 7 that killed the driver and another passenger. Angulo suffered a head injury and a bruised lung and was placed in an induced coma.

He was on loan from FC Cincinnati to the Ecuadorian first division club LDU Quito.

“We are deeply saddened by the loss of Marco – a husband and father, a brother and son, a friend and teammate. “He was a happy, friendly young man who lit up every room he walked into,” FC Cincinnati said in a team statement. “Our entire club mourns this tragedy and we are thinking and praying for his family. He was a valued member of the FC Cincinnati family and we will miss him.”

Angulo joined Cincinnati from Independiente de Valle in Ecuador in December 2022 and was part of Cincinnati's 2023 team that won the Supporters' Shield, playing in 24 games (nine starts) and providing two assists. He was with LDU Quito for the entire 2024 season.
