Police investigate accidental death at Amazon facility

A man died early Tuesday morning at an Amazon distribution center in Port St. Lucie, officials said.

The incident occurred around 12:08 p.m. at the Amazon facility at 13450 Southwest Anthony F. Sansone Sr. Blvd.

Police said a mechanic became trapped under an Amazon delivery truck, prompting officers and the St. Lucie County Fire Department to respond to the facility.

Investigators said a preliminary investigation revealed 42-year-old Andrew Tabannah was working under the van, which was propped up on a jack stand.

At some point, police say, the jack support failed and the van fell partially onto Tabannah, pinning him underneath.

Colleagues placed additional jack stands under the van and pulled Tabannah out from under the vehicle. Police said they began life-saving measures until an ambulance arrived.

Tabannah was taken to Cleveland Clinic Tradition Hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.

Police said investigators have taken over the investigation, notified OSHA and are working with them on the case.

At this point, police said the death appeared to be accidental and that foul play was not suspected.
