Gainesville gas main leak blocked part of McEve…

Hall County public safety officials directed traffic off a portion of McEver Road in Gainesville Tuesday morning due to a reported gas leak in the main.

The Hall County Sheriff's Office (HCSO) social media page reports that the traffic diversion occurred between Nachoochee Trail and Lights Ferry Road due to a reported main gas leak. Atlanta Gas Company crews were reported to the scene after 8:00 a.m. and traffic was diverted to alternate locations. HCSO officials said the roadway was opened to traffic shortly before 9:30 a.m.

Hall County Fire Rescue (HCFR) spokesperson Kimberlie Ledsinger tells AccessWDUN that the first call came in around 8 a.m. to a construction site on McEver Road. HCFR crews, with assistance from HCSO, blocked the roadway to prevent exposure while Atlanta Gas Company responded, began repairs to the pipe and shut off the gas source.

No injuries were reported and Ledsinger said the area was safe and secure as of 10:20 a.m. Tuesday. The cause of the gas main interruption has not been clarified.
