The Google Vids app allows you to create an edit using a command prompt and a document

Vids users can quickly create a video using a Command Prompt and a Google Doc.

Google is launching a new AI-powered app called Vids that can create video presentations with just a single prompt.

Starting November 7, Vids will be available on paid Google Workspace accounts for people who want to create videos in a work environment. The app is aimed at teams in customer service, learning and development and marketing.

Google says the app could be used to convert customer support articles into videos, create training videos, create company information, and more.

Powered by Gemini, Google's AI-powered assistant, Vids helps people “get to a first draft faster through a range of generative AI capabilities.”

Features include Help Me Create, which creates an editable storyboard using a Google Drive prompt and document. Vids reads the document and creates an appropriate presentation.

Vids also recommends stock images, text, a script, and even a background music track.

“You can also get started with a variety of app-focused templates to create a new video,” writes Google on its Workspace blog.

“From there, you can add motion with animations, transitions, and photo effects, and customize your video using Vids’ royalty-free stock content library or your own media directly from Google Drive or Google Photos.”

The user can write their own scripts for the video, one of which is suggested by Google Vids. If the user doesn't feel like recording the voiceover, they can choose one of Gemini's preset AI voices.

If the user is recording a voice over, there is a teleprompter feature to assist the user in recording a message. Users can also add a video recording themselves; Add a screen recording with National; Add a screen capture with video recording; or add an audio-only recording.

The Verge reports that Vids supports multiple languages, but the AI features like “Help Me Create” and the teleprompter are only available in English for now.

Vids began rolling out on November 7, but it could take more than two weeks for them to appear in users' workspaces.
