Victim identified in fatal crash in Hamilton County

AURORA, Neb. (KSNB) – The Hamilton County Sheriff's Office has identified the two people killed in a crash north of Aurora on Monday.

The sheriff's office said a southbound semi-truck collided with a northbound pickup truck on Highway 14.

The driver of the pickup, 42-year-old Nathan Omel, and the rear passenger, 66-year-old Cynthia Omel, both of Grand Island, died at the scene.

Marion Omel, 95, a passenger in the pickup, was taken to CHI Health St. Francis, where he remains hospitalized.

The driver of the semi-truck is a 34-year-old man from Kearney who was not injured in the accident.

Seat belts were used in both vehicles.

The investigation is currently ongoing.

Responding to the scene included the Aurora Police Department, Aurora Fire & Ambulance and the Nebraska State Patrol.
