Doug Pederson clears up one aspect of the Jaguars star's injury status

Jacksonville Jaguars quarterback Trevor Lawrence missed the second game of his NFL career this weekwhich raises the question of when and perhaps even if he will return for the 2025 season.

At least that was the story last week, when several national analysts painted a potentially bleak picture for Lawrence despite his left shoulder injury.

“While Jaguars QB Trevor Lawrence (left shoulder) continues to undergo treatment and weigh options moving forward, sources believe it is unlikely he will play against the Vikings on Sunday.”
“Lawrence was limited in practice yesterday and coach Doug Pederson was noncommittal about his status,” NFL Network's Ian Rapoport said last Thursday.

“No surgery planned… There are several options immediately and in the future. This is one of them. He is considered an everyday patient with a left shoulder,” Rapoport continued. “But considering those options, Trevor Lawrence is unlikely to play on Sunday. Mac Jones is the replacement.”

Lawrence, of course, would miss the Week 10 game against the Minnesota Vikings. But on Monday, Jaguars head coach Doug Pederson dismissed the notion that Lawrence was undergoing surgery and could face a lengthy layoff.

“There was no talk of surgery, so I don't know where the talk of surgery came from. Nothing like that,” Pederson said.

Otherwise, Pederson provided little update on Lawrence's status and his timeline for his return. That will certainly happen later in the week, although signs could point to Jones starting for the second week in a row.

“It's hard to say at the moment. We still have a few days. I don’t have clear answers right now,” Pederson said.

In Week 10, Lawrence spent his day on the sidelines wearing a headset. Whether this will repeat itself in week 11 remains to be seen; Even though Lawrence wasn't on the field, he still provided value.

“Yeah, I’ll tell you what, he really was engaged yesterday. Helped Mac all day. We had great conversations on the sidelines, things he saw. “So yeah, that's something that can definitely give him a little bit of a different perspective and calmer eyes and see how the game is going,” Pederson said.
