“Wheel of Fortune” contestant goes viral because of “sausage” answer

Entertainment gossip and news from Newsweek's network of contributors

Wheel of Fortune has created another viral moment as contestant Will Jordan's appearance on the game show took an unexpected turn.

On the show's Veterans Day episode on Monday, November 11, Jordan, a Coast Guard veteran from Connecticut, quickly became an internet sensation after giving a humorous and rather strange answer to a riddle.

Afterward, when Jordan tried to solve a sentence, he misread the letters on the board and confidently declared, “Treat yourself to a round of sausage.” His guess left presenter Ryan Seacrest unimpressed, who simply told Jordan he was wrong, and moving on to the next participant who correctly solved the puzzle: “Give yourself a round of applause.”

Afterward, Seacrest, 49, couldn't help but joke, telling Jordan, “Although, Will, I kind of liked your joke better. That sounds better than just clapping now.” (Jordan, for his part, later joked to social media correspondent Maggie Sajak that her father would be retired until then wheel Host Pat Sajak –– laughs as he watches, he's okay with his mistake.)

Although Jordan's embarrassing moment was short-lived, the internet quickly caught on. Fans took to X (formerly Twitter) to share their reactions to the hilarious reaction. One user replied, “He may have been wrong, but deep down we know he was right,” while another quipped, “Will will have a hard time living this down.”

A third user noted, “The way the kids at Will's school will NEVER let him forget 'treat yourself to a round of sausage,'” referring to Jordan's current job as a school resource officer, which he revealed at the beginning of the episode.

But Jordan wasn't the only one at fault wheel since recently. On Friday, November 8's episode, contestant Phoebe Huynh made a memorable guess during the bonus round. Huynh chose “Food and Drink” as the category and was faced with the puzzle “_ _ _ ND _ ED / _ R _ _ T.” Huynh confidently guessed: “Sun Dried Grape”, followed by “Sun Dried Bird” and finally “Sun Dried Cats.” Seacrest revealed that the correct answer was “candied fruit,” and jokingly asked, “Do you eat sun-dried birds?” after Huynh shrugged and admitted she hadn't eaten candied fruit. Huynh replied, “No, I’m a vegetarian!” to the flub, which cost her the prize of $75,000.
