Two people face murder charges in connection with the shooting in a southeast Garland condominium

Garland police say two Mesquite residents face murder charges in the death of 53-year-old Johnny Mac Ross Jr., whose body they found wrapped in sheets of leaf-like material early Monday.

Police arrested 20-year-old Haley Barber and 20-year-old Leo Moore in connection with the case, according to a news release Tuesday. They are currently in custody at the Garland Detention Center and have not been appointed attorneys.

Around 1 a.m. Monday, police responded to a report of a death at a condominium in the 4500 block of Chaha Road, where they said they saw signs of crime.

Initial investigations indicate that the victim died of a knife wound, police said on Tuesday.

Police also said they discovered one of the victim's vehicles had been stolen from the residence and located it on Miller Road near the LBJ Freeway around 1 p.m. Monday.

Barber and Moore then unsuccessfully attempted to flee in the stolen vehicle and on foot, the release said.

Police say they subsequently collected additional evidence suggesting that Barber and Moore knew Ross and were responsible for his death, although the investigation is ongoing.
