Louisville residents ordered to shelter in place after “hazardous materials incident.”

People in Louisville, Kentucky, were asked to shelter within a mile of a reported explosion and fire in a neighborhood east of downtown.

The city's emergency services responded to Louisville Metro Police said its officers responded and closed streets around the location.

According to a post from the Louisville Fire Department, this is the scene of a “major incident.”

Video from NBC affiliate WAVE showed a large police presence and emergency vehicles lining what appeared to be a residential street.

Firefighters and trucks were about two blocks from where the caution tape blocked the street.

Authorities provided no further information and an email from NBC News to Givaudan Sense Colors was not immediately returned.
