WREXHAM AFC: A point guarantees the Reds a home draw

The Northern Group B game at Vale Park will give Phil Parkinson another chance to give his fringe and squad players some action and a point will guarantee the Reds a home draw in the Round of 32.

A trophy run could so easily be seen as a distraction, but it could prove beneficial for Wrexham as they continue to search for back-to-back promotions. The question that should be discussed is whether the U21 teams in the Premier League should continue to take part. Fans of third and fourth division clubs have long been dissatisfied with this trophy system, which was introduced back in 2016. But now that U21 players from the top division are also being invited to compete in the newly founded National League Cup, these questions must be asked.

For me it should be one competition or another for these young teams and the EFL Trophy should be a 48 club competition again.
