Robin Hood is arrested by Sherwood police and charged with criminal mischief

“I was driving by here and saw a man dressed like Robin Hood, handcuffed and talking to police officers,” said Michael Levi of Sherwood.

Police in the town of Sherwood have arrested Robin Hood, or at least a man dressed as Robin Hood, on criminal breach of trust and other charges.

Robin Hood has been Sherwood's mascot since the city's founding in 1948. The irony was not lost on Sherwood residents, who quickly took to social media to discuss the arrest of their town's “mascot.”

Some in the city believe the allegations against Robin Hood and 64-year-old Robert Walla are too harsh.

According to Sherwood police, Walla was caught on Sept. 28 in full Robin Hood regalia, toy bow and arrows in hand, spray-painting a message on a sheet of plywood that left a hole in the wall of the Sherwood Country Club – a city property. covered.

However, the police didn't find it particularly funny and arrested Walla after he refused to tell them his name and date of birth.

Walla was released on his own recognizance after processing and charged with second-degree criminal breach of trust and obstructing government operations.

“It is only in the last few days that the prosecutor has brought further charges against him. They could have just paraded it and moved on, but they made a big deal about something that had humor in it. And now they're going to make him pay for all of that and this guy doesn't have the money or the income to pay for all of that,” Levi said.

“It's sweet, but still the Sherwood police have to do their job and I think that's what they did; they were trying to do their job.” [But] Every story always has two sides. “This was an older man,” Sherwood resident Kay Mobley told KATV.

Tom Reline, owner of Sherwood Starter and Alternator, has known Robert Walla for many years and was shocked to discover his alter ego.

“Yeah, when the man dressed as Robin Hood – I found out he was Robert Walla, I was surprised because Robert would do anything for you. He was always very nice and helped me,” said Reline.

“He probably has a little grudge against the Sherwood police; the Sherwood police probably took it out on him. I guess we’ll have to wait and see what the results are in court.”

It seems that the Sheriff of Nottingham has finally caught Robin Hood.

KATV reached out to Walla but was unable to make contact prior to airing this story.
