Drug withdrawal day

EAU CLAIRE, Wis. (WEAU) – This Saturday is Drug Take Back Day and Wisconsin Attorney General Josh Kaul is working with law enforcement and health officials to make sure people know about it.

More than 150 events are planned across the state for Wisconsin residents to dispose of unwanted and unused medications.

According to AG Kaul, keeping old prescriptions can lead to drug abuse and flushing them down the toilet can also lead to other problems.

“It is also important for our environment that medicines are not washed away. Many years ago, people were often told to flush their medications. But we have learned over time that water treatment plants do not filter out all the drugs that are flushed out, and we don't want drugs ending up in our water supplies,” said AG Josh Kaul.

Drug take-back locations in the Chippewa Valley this Saturday include the Eau Claire County Government Building, Altoona Police Department and Lake Hallie Walmart.

There are also more than 500 permanent medication disposal boxes nationwide.
