West Fargo man is accused of embezzling $2.7 million from Fargo construction company

FARGO, N.D. (Valley News Live) – 29-year-old Daniel Lindgren of West Fargo has been charged with grand theft alleging he stole over $2.7 million from a Fargo construction company.

Court documents say Fargo officials were called to Shorestone Development on Oct. 26 to take a fraud report. The owner, Mark Payne, reported that Lindgren, the company's chief operating officer, embezzled a large sum of money from the company over the course of three years. According to court documents, Lindgren had access to five business bank accounts, including Payne's personal bank accounts.

In the report submitted to police, Payne said he was alerted by Bell Bank to fraudulent activity in one of the business accounts. On October 18, Payne and Lindgren met in person with a Bell Bank representative who believed Lindgren was embezzling money from the account. Court documents say the Bremer Bank also accused Lindgren of embezzling significant amounts of money.

A review of Bremer Bank account statements from May 31, 2022 to September 30, 2024 revealed that of 345 business checks, 262 were made out to Daniel Lindgren for a total amount of $2,716,180.50.

The Payne family says they are still working with other banking institutions regarding the other business accounts to determine whether there has been fraudulent activity on those accounts as well. The court filing states that it was expected that the total amount of embezzlement committed by Lindgren would continue to increase.
