Man arrested on WSU campus and accused of rape

WICHITA, Kan. (KWCH) – Wichita State University police arrested a man on campus Monday on rape charges. According to online booking records from the Sedgwick County Sheriff's Office, Mohamed Ma was arrested and charged with rape and aggravated criminal sodomy.

12 News reached out to Wichita State to find out whether Ma was a student or employee of the university and to get more details about the incident.

Lainie Mazzullo-Hart, director of WSU's Office of Strategic Communications, said the university cannot comment on the ongoing investigation and there is no threat to the WSU community.

“…the safety of our students, staff and faculty is always the university’s top priority,” Mazzullo-Hart said. “We understand that any report of possible sexual assault can be disturbing and difficult to process. There are many resources for the campus community.”

The university pointed to 12 News as resources:

  • HOPE Services (information on sexual violence services)
  • Counseling and psychological services (offers counseling services)
  • CARE Team (allows students to submit a concern, receive assistance, or request training)

Wichita State University campus police declined to comment.
