Dispute over Christmas decorations ends with woman arrested

JONESBORO, Ark. (KAIT) – A Jonesboro woman is facing charges after police say she violently entered a neighbor's home and struck him following an argument over an outdoor Christmas display.

District Judge Barbara Halsey found probable cause on Tuesday, Nov. 12, to charge 22-year-old Shaylin Elizabeth Moore with residential burglary, a Class B felony, and third-degree assault, a Class A misdemeanor.

According to the affidavit, on Monday, Nov. 11, officers responded to a call on Belt Street regarding an assault.

The victim claimed Moore entered her apartment and attacked her.

“The victim stated that the incident began when Moore was putting up an inflatable Christmas decoration outside and asked the victim to stop her dog from tearing it up,” court documents state.

The two then got into a “verbal argument” before the victim went back to her apartment, police said.

“The victim stated that she was sitting on her couch when Moore came in, jumped on her and began hitting her,” the affidavit states. “The victim’s dog attempted to defend the victim and jumped at Moore and scratched her face.”

During an interview with the victim, investigators said Moore “spontaneously admitted” to going into the apartment and starting the fight.

“The officers kept telling Moore that they would speak to her shortly, but Moore continued talking and admitted that she did it,” Detective Madison Dobbs said.

Police arrested Moore and took her to the Craighead County Detention Center, where she is being held on $10,000 cash bail awaiting her Dec. 17 appearance in District Court.
