Following Donald Trump's comeback in the presidential election, Republican Rep. Mike Rogers of Alabama is being considered for the role of U.S. Secretary of Defense in the new administration. Fox News reported.

Rogers was re-elected unopposed to represent Alabama's Third Congressional District in the November 5 election. He has held the seat since 2002 and represents the East Alabama district.

Rogers, a former FBI agent, is currently chairman of the House Armed Services Committee. He also served as ranking member of the Homeland Security Committee during the 116th Congress

In addition to Rogers, the publication also reported that another Republican, Rep. Mike Waltz of Florida, is also being considered for the defense secretary position.

Waltz, a retired National Guard colonel and combat-decorated Green Beret, previously served as director of defense policy for Defense Secretaries Donald Rumsfeld and Robert Gates. He also advised the Bush administration on policy issues, which he later implemented in the military.

He is currently a member of the House Armed Services, Intelligence and Foreign Affairs Committees.

On Tuesday, Trump secured a historic comeback to the White House, marking the beginning of more than a decade of U.S. politics shaped by his hard-line, disruptive right-wing agenda.

The 78-year-old former president won by a larger margin than before, despite a criminal conviction, two impeachment trials during his term and warnings from his former chief of staff who called him a “fascist.”

Multiple exit polls showed that voters' concerns about the economy and inflation, which rose sharply under Joe Biden's administration in the wake of the Covid-19 pandemic, appeared to play a key role in the election outcome.
