Bladen County man convicted of assault and attempted murder of his elderly father

BLADEN COUNTY, NC (WECT) – A man has been sentenced to nearly 15 years in prison for the assault of his 67-year-old father.

According to court documents, on August 25, 2023, Kirby Elkins forcibly entered the home of Kirby Edwards Elkins. Elkins reportedly head-butted his father and sprayed lighter fluid in his face. Kirby Elkins Sr. then threw away a lighter that Elkins Jr. had.

He suffered a cut behind his ear on the back of his head and a stab wound to his chest and had to defend himself on a kitchen chair.

First responders arrived at the home on NC 211 in Clarkton and found a folding knife near the pool of blood in the kitchen and a gas canister that Elkins Jr. had left outside the home.

They found Elkins Jr. at an address in Hew Hanover County.

Elkins Jr. pleaded guilty to assault with a deadly weapon inflicting serious injury with intent to kill, as well as burglary and attempted arson. He was sentenced to 11.5 to 14.8 years in prison.
