Dramatic video shows Medina County first responders saving a woman from a burning home

YORK TOWNSHIP, Ohio (WOIO) – A Medina County woman is lucky to be alive Thursday after bravely being rescued from her burning home.

The fire broke out around 10:50 a.m. Wednesday at a home on Branch Road near the railroad tracks in York Township.

In the dramatic video posted on 19 News, Medina County sheriff's deputies and firefighters from multiple departments can be seen rushing to the home.

Smoke pours from the building and rises high into the sky as a police officer drives to the scene.

The woman trapped inside, a 31-year-old, spoke to a dispatcher for several minutes as she waited for rescue.

She was scared and shouted “Oh my God” to the dispatcher, but stayed calm and made a plan so first responders could find her.

The home's detached garage was completely engulfed in flames when first responders arrived.

As they work to save the woman, the fire spreads to the house.

The video shows how emergency services and firefighters finally find the basement window where the woman is waiting for them.

They break it open and a firefighter climbs in to help her get out, the video says.

She was evaluated, treated and released at a local hospital.

The Medina County Sheriff's Office said six first responders, four sheriff's office employees and two firefighters were treated at local hospitals following the fire.

They were all treated and released.

About a dozen agencies responded to the fire and the Ohio State Fire Marshal will be conducting the investigation.

The cause of the fire remains undetermined and tips can be made by calling 800-589-2728.
