Kyrie Irving shares hope for Klay Thompson ahead of Chase Center return – NBC Sports Bay Area & California

Kyrie Irving had a hopeful message for teammate Klay Thompson as the Dallas Mavericks face the Warriors in San Francisco.

Irving spoke to the media ahead of Tuesday's big clash at Chase Center and explained his thoughts on facing Thompson's former team.

“I’m happy for him,” Irving told reporters. “I want him to be present as often as possible. To truly receive the love and flowers he deserves. He's done a lot of hard work here and made a lot of sacrifices for this organization. That's why it's only right that we support him, show him lots of love and prepare ourselves for the competition on the pitch. It’s going to be one of those games.”

This will be the first time Thompson will be on the visitors' bench in San Francisco in what promises to be an emotionally charged game.

After eleven seasons with the Warriors, the two teams parted ways in the summer after talks over a contract extension failed. The breakup was particularly difficult for Steph Curry and Draymond Green, as the trio had led Golden State to unprecedented success during their time together.

With Thompson, Irving and Luka Dončić, the Mavericks now have three of the best scorers in the league and will be a tough opponent for any team. Considering Dallas' offensive brilliance helped them reach the NBA Finals last season, many around the league expect the team to be a contender once again.

Golden State seemingly hasn't missed a beat, adding a number of veterans in the offseason and getting off to an 8-2 start this season. With excellent long-range shooting and lockdown defense, the Warriors have held their own in a tough Western Conference.

The Warriors have some special honors planned for the occasion in what promises to be a hard-fought and emotional game.
