Crime Range in Durham | Two deaths and multiple shootings in a week mark a series of violent incidents in the Bull City

DURHAM, N.C. (WTVD) — Gun violence has some Bull City residents on edge after a string of five shootings involved at least eight people.

The latest shooting occurred Tuesday morning in the area of ​​Holloway Street and Brye Street, where police said a man was found dead.

“Two people die in a week,” Jesus Romero said. “So this is only getting worse.”

The shooting occurred as Durham police are investigating a homicide that occurred in the same neighborhood Saturday when a man was shot.

After living in the neighborhood for several years, safety is a growing concern for Romero, who lives just a few hundred yards from where the recent violence occurred.

“My sister-in-law wants to move,” Romero said. “Every time I go into my room, we let the dogs out and then they let us know. This is the only way we can feel safe.”

Meanwhile, Durham police are investigating two separate shootings in an area north of downtown near the Oaks at Northgate apartment complex in which three people were shot in less than 48 hours.

According to Durham police, a man was injured in the 2300 block of Lednum Street on Sunday, then two men were injured overnight in the same area on Tuesday, one of whom died.

“Sometimes I’m scared,” Jamaal Scarlett said. “I’m scared when I walk out the front door.”

As of Tuesday evening, both shootings on Lednum Street remain under investigation and Durham police cannot confirm whether the two shootings are related.
