UIPD employee placed on leave pending investigation into alleged incident following Illini win | News

Fans flooded the field after Illinois defeated Michigan 21-7 at Memorial Stadium on Saturday.

URBANA — A University of Illinois Police Department employee has been placed on paid administrative leave pending an investigation into an alleged incident in the chaos following the Illini's win over Michigan on Saturday.

“UIPD is investigating an incident that allegedly occurred on the field after Saturday’s game,” UI spokesman Robin Kaler said Thursday. “I can confirm that a sworn UIPD employee is on paid administrative leave pending an internal investigation.”

Champaign County Attorney Julia Rietz said her office had received no reports from the university about incidents that occurred after the historic win, which thousands of fans celebrated by streaming from the stands onto Zuppke Field.

Kaler said the university would not provide any further information at this time because the investigation is ongoing.
