Elon Musk and Vivek Ramaswamy lead Trump's Department of Government Efficiency

President-elect Trump announced that billionaire Elon Musk and former GOP presidential candidate Vivek Ramaswamy will lead the Department of Government Efficiency.

Trump said the pair would work together to “cut government bureaucracy, reduce excessive regulations, cut wasteful spending and restructure federal agencies.”

“It may become the 'Manhattan Project' of our time,” the announcement said Tuesday evening. “Republican politicians have dreamed of the goals of ‘DOGE’ for a very long time.”

The president-elect said that Musk and Ramaswamy will “provide advice and guidance from outside government and work with the White House and the Office of Management & Budget to advance large-scale structural reforms and create an entrepreneurial approach to government, as it is has never given it before.” .”

Trump said the agency would focus on creating a more efficient U.S. government aimed at making “life better for all Americans.”

“Importantly, we eliminate the massive waste and fraud inherent in our $6.5 trillion in annual government spending. They will work together to liberate our economy and hold the U.S. government accountable to 'WE THE PEOPLE.'

“Their work will be completed no later than July 4, 2026. A smaller government with more efficiency and less bureaucracy will be the perfect gift to America on the 250th anniversary of the Declaration of Independence. I am confident they will succeed!”

In an X post, Ramaswamy reacted to his appointment.

“We will not go easy, Elon Musk,” he wrote in the post.

Ramaswamy was a vocal supporter of Trump after he suspended his presidential campaign on January 24.

Musk was also a key component in Trump's campaign – the technology entrepreneur traveled across key battleground states in the run-up to the 2024 election.

The world's richest man, who said he has voted for former Democratic presidential candidates including President Biden in the past, supported Trump this summer after the first assassination attempt on the 45th president on July 13.

Following the president-elect's landslide victory over Vice President Kamala Harris, Trump's Cabinet appointments quickly emerged.

Trump has picked the top Republicans, and the president-elect is expected to make the choice Florida Senator Marco Rubio as his secretary of state and South Dakota Gov. Kristi Noem as homeland security secretary.
