Alaska Governor Mike Dunleavy has spoken to Trump's transition team about becoming Secretary of the Interior

Alaska Gov. Mike Dunleavy and Donald Trump's transition team have discussed the prospect of him becoming the next Interior secretary, three sources familiar with the discussions told NOTUS.

Trump and Dunleavy have a close relationship that dates back to 2018, when he first ran for governor. The then-president supported Dunleavy when he faced recall in 2019 and when he ran for re-election in 2022. The Alaska governor was one of Trump's first supporters in August 2023, when Trump faced a full Republican primary field.

But it's not just Trump and Dunleavy who are close; The Alaska governor also has a close relationship with Linda McMahon, the co-chair of Trump's transition team, the three sources told NOTUS. At Trump's rally at Madison Square Garden last month, Dunleavy spent most of his time in a private box with McMahon.
