Firefighters battle barn fire in Louisville

LOUISVILLE – Emergency crews closed a section of East Main Street Tuesday afternoon to battle a fire that destroyed a barn.

No one was injured in the fire at 1007 East Main Street, fire Capt. Thomas Ruskin said. \

The barn was a total loss.

The resident of the home on the property, which is approximately 50 to 75 feet from the barn, reported the fire at 11:42 a.m. Firefighters from the city and the townships of Nimishillen, Osnaburg and Canton responded.

Ruskin said the fire did not affect the residence on the property, but some siding on homes closer to the barn was damaged. Nobody was evicted.

Ruskin said there were no animals, vehicles, fuel or hazardous materials in the barn.

The section of East Main Street from Nickel Plate Avenue west to Mill Street was closed so firefighters could run hoses to fire hydrants. Units cleared the scene at 1:49 p.m

Ruskin said the cause of the fire was unknown. The city's fire inspector will try to determine what started the fire. Ruskin had no estimate of damage.
