Holly Springs resident accused of evading driver's license check and crashing into MHP patrol car

BENTON CO., Miss. (WMC) – A Holly Springs, Mississippi, resident has been charged for allegedly leading state troopers on a chase that ended in a crash over an attempt to evade a driver's license inspection Monday.

According to the Mississippi Highway Patrol, 30-year-old Devonta Chavon Jefferson was driving a 2012 Infiniti M35H on Highway 7 in Benton County on Monday evening when state troopers ran a driver's license check.

Officers reportedly saw the Infiniti turn around as it approached the checkpoint.

One of the officers chased the car and attempted to stop it when Jefferson allegedly failed to yield, leading to a short chase.

MHP says Jefferson lost control of the Infiniti and struck an MHP patrol car on Highway 309 in Marshall County.

Luckily no one was injured.

Jefferson was arrested at the scene.
