Kerr Kriisa argues for PG1; Mark Pope wants him to be “the best pace guy in the country”.

Another day, another impressive win for the Kentucky Wildcats at Rupp Arena as they defeated the Bucknell Bison 100-72.

It was an impressive performance on every level tonight, including an absurd shooting night for Koby Brea. Another big story from this game was Kerr Kriisa making a strong case to be Kentucky's best point guard.

Kriisa finished the night with six points on 2/5 shooting from the field, while also contributing a game-high 12 assists against just two turnovers and four rebounds. So far this season he has 17 assists with three turnovers in 35 minutes of play.

What made the event even more special for Kriisa was the presence of his mother.

After the game, head coach Mark Pope said he wanted Kriisa to be “the best pace guy in the country.”

It was clear in this game that Kriisa is very effective at running the fast break for Kentucky's offense and pushing the tempo. So it's easy to see why Pope believes the Estonian can make such an impression.

Kriisa was known for his energy and charisma on the field during his time at Arizona and West Virginia. He is also known for his passing skills, which he put on full display against the Bison. As we share time at the point guard spot with Lamont Butler, it becomes pretty obvious that any player could actually be PG1 on this roster on any given night.

Honestly, they make a great one-two punch in the backcourt for Pope's team. With Butler's special defensive skills coupled with Kris' great offensive skills, it looks like this Kentucky team could do something special this season.

All attention now turns to Duke on Tuesday night as this Kentucky team has its first real test of the season in Atlanta. On what is a big stage for most of these players, both guys know exactly what to do when the lights come on, at least when it comes to the first guard spot.

Has Kriisa done enough to earn the PG1 role? I think it's fair to say both players will share the spotlight together on any given night. And as you've probably heard many times, it doesn't matter who starts. It's the one who finishes, and Kerr makes a strong case to be the Cats' closer point guard, at least when they need more offense.
