The first perfect score of the season has been unlocked

Warning: This article contains spoilers for Dancing with the stars Season 33, Episode 8, “500. Episode Night”.

Happy 500th birthday Dancing with the stars! You don't look a day older than 450.

To celebrate 500 episodes of the iconic show, the stars of season 33 paid homage to some of the contestants' most memorable dances of the past. With the semi-finals clearly in sight, the judges made sure the celebrities' charisma and technique were at their best, and everyone delivered their best.

Joey Graziadei and Jenna Johnson Chmerkovskiy.

First was Bachelor star Joey Graziadei and pro partner Jenna, who paid tribute to the emotional contemporary routine that Riker Lynch and Allison Holker danced to Hozier's “Work Song” in Season 20. Carrie Ann Inaba caused quite a stir on social media last week for handing out an extra tenner on Halloween night. The judge said, “I'll tell it like it is, I always will,” and tell it like she did it, saying the dance lacked rawness.

NFL star Danny Amendola and NBA star Dwight Howard received similar scores from the judges, with differing criticisms. Bruno Tonioli said that Danny's quickstep was “firing on cylinders” and Carrie Ann said that Dwight's Argentine tango lacked some dance content from him, although the pair eventually agreed, aka Daniella, who danced on a platform the same height as Dwight. “I finally saw what he looks like!” Daniella joked. Danny got 27 out of 30 and Dwight got 26.

Olympic gymnast Stephen Nedoroscik announced that he has fallen in love with dance and that today's Viennese waltz to “Glimpse of Us” by Joji is his love letter to dance. And that love was felt as he and his pro partner Rylee entered the ballroom to reimagine Season 31 winners Charli D'Amelio and Mark Ballas' routine. The judges gave Stephen such loving and meaningful criticism, with Derek Hough explaining that he really loved the feelings the dance made him feel. “A young man growing up before us,” Bruno said. “You should be proud of what you've accomplished.” Carrie Ann agreed: “The world needed this at that moment.” Carrie Ann and Derek both awarded the couple a 10.

Disney star Chandler Kinney and pro partner Brandon had the difficult task of recreating not only an iconic dance from the past, but a dance choreographed by one of today's judges! The pair danced a reimagined version of Kellie Pickler and Derek Hough's Argentinian tango from season 16 and received high praise for the fluidity and intensity of the dance. The pair achieved their first perfect score of the season. But the highest praise of all? Derek said he preferred Chandler's dance to his.

Olympic rugby player Ilona Maher said she was really hoping for a 10 this week after last week's low results. And with hard work and dedication, she got a 10! Her Quickstep was praised for her refined footwork, better timing and obvious enjoyment while dancing. With 28 out of 30, she achieved her highest score to date.

Then for the first time in Dance In the story, the stars competed against each other in an instant dance round. To say this was a challenge is an understatement as the couples had to perform a dance to a song and style they were given just five minutes before the live performance! Despite this little preparation, they all performed satisfactory dances and left the judges in awe after each performance. Joey and Jenna and Chandler and Brandon earned the highest score in the instant dance round, with Chandler receiving her second perfect score of the night.

Finally it was time to say goodbye to a couple and it was Dwight and Daniella. The basketball star brought a lot to the ballroom week after week, but after consistently scoring fewer points than his competitors, it was time to go home. The dance partners thanked each other for their time at the show and said goodbye with a sweet farewell.
