A Drain man was jailed Monday night after a drunk driving/hit-and-run accident.

According to a Douglas County Sheriff's Office report, at 7:25 p.m., officers responded to a crash in the 100 block of B Avenue in Drain, where the driver reportedly exited his pickup truck and fled the scene. Officers determined that the vehicle crashed into the railroad crossing pole, throwing it off the bottom and then landing on the railroad tracks.

The vehicle's registered owner, a 36-year-old man, lived just a few blocks from the wreckage, in the direction the man had run. The owner was contacted at his residence and told the deputy that he fled the accident because he was intoxicated.

The man agreed to standard field sobriety tests and reportedly performed poorly. He provided a breath sample that showed a blood alcohol level of 0.09 percent. The man was accused of driving under the influence of alcohol and failing to fulfill his duties as a driver. He was held without bail and released Tuesday.
