Wife's murder trial postponed

The trial of a man accused of murdering his wife as she pushed their baby in a stroller has been postponed until next summer.

Habibur Masum, 26, was scheduled to stand trial on December 2 for the fatal knife attack on Kulsuma Akter.

Ms Akter, 27, was attacked in Bradford city center on April 6 as she pushed her baby. The baby was unharmed.

Due to problems with the availability of a psychiatric report, the hearing was postponed to June 9, 2025.

At a hearing earlier this year, Mr Masum, of Leamington Avenue, Burnley, pleaded not guilty to murdering his wife and possessing a bladed article.

Mr. Masum also denied two counts of assault, one count of threatening to kill and one count of stalking, all against Ms. Akter.

Mr. Masum is accused of stalking Ms. Akter between November 2023 and April 2024. The allegation is that he “tracked her movements and located her in a safe house, sent her threatening messages that included threats to kill another, as well as photos and videos of the area and the premises in which she lived” .

Mr Masum has been in custody since his arrest in April.
