BANGKOK – In case you can't get enough of Thailand's little pygmy hippo Moo Deng, there's now an official song featuring the internet's most popular baby animal – released in four languages for her worldwide fans.

The upbeat 50-second song “Moodeng Moodeng,” available in Thai, English, Chinese and Japanese versions, features simple lyrics such as “Moo Deng Moo Deng, boing boing boing/ Mama Mama, play with me.” The music video consists of from short clips of the baby hippo hopping around, playing with its keeper or hanging out with its mother Jona.

The catchy number was produced and written by popular Thai composer Mueanphet Ammara and released by one of Thailand's largest music companies, GMM Music.

Moo Deng – the name literally means “jumping pork”, a type of meatball, in Thai – became a global phenomenon just a month after she was unveiled on Facebook by the Khao Kheow Open Zoo in Thailand's southern Chon Buri province.

Fans say her name suits her chaotic personality. Moo Deng “deng” or loves to hop, and her dizzying hops have appeared in countless memes on social media. Her image has been used by sports teams and companies.

The now four-month-old hippopotamus attracts numerous visitors to the zoo, which is around two hours' drive from the capital Bangkok. The zoo estimates it has received an average of 3,000 to 5,000 visitors per day in recent months and sells clothing, bedding and other goods based on Moo Deng.

Zoo director Narongwit Chodchoi said Moo Deng's increasing revenue would support its breeding programs for many endangered species such as the pygmy hippopotamus, which is threatened by poaching and habitat loss. The species is native to West Africa and there are only 2,000 to 3,000 left in the wild.

The zoo covers an area of 800 hectares (almost 2,000 acres) and is home to more than 2,000 animals.

All four versions of the Moo Deng song are available on YouTube and streaming platforms such as Spotify and Apple Music.
