Ed Orgeron will return to replace Brian Kelly as head coach of the LSU Tigers

It has become very clear that Brian Kelly is not the man to lead the LSU Tigers after their 42-13 loss to the Alabama Crimson Tide. They need a change, and that change will come in the form of someone who knows the LSU program very well.

Kelly ultimately took over as LSU's head coach in November 2021, replacing Ed Orgeron. They were 10-4 in his first season in 2022, then 10-3 in Kelly's second season. While they have a winning record, the losses have begun to ruin the team's culture under Kelly. Additionally, the Tigers had their bye week before the Alabama game, giving them two weeks to prepare. Instead, they came out flat, allowing 420 yards to Alabama and making too many mistakes on offense. The Tigers were unprepared and that's on Kelly.

With the College Football Playoff out of reach and the ceiling reached under Kelly, they must make a coaching change that will result in a reunion with Ed Orgeron.

When Orgeron was head coach, the team reached its full potential with a national championship in 2019. The thing about Orgeron is that he is a great recruiter and is also able to develop players in the right way. With the type of coach Orgeron is, he would also be able to navigate the transfer portal well and bring in proven defensive talent with experience to help rejuvenate a struggling group.

LSU has always been Orgeron's dream school as a coach, so the passion for the program is still there. This type of passion is what LSU needs to fully return the culture and program to its championship levels. Orgeron had a 74% win rate, but once he reached the championship he was unable to maintain the success and keep his cool, eventually giving up under pressure. Now that more than two years have passed, Orgeron should have been given time to regroup and return more level-headed. LSU needs a spark, Garrett Nussmeier was a good quarterback but wasn't coached properly under Kelly, and with Orgeron's proven track record of finding talent and cultivating a culture, LSU has no other option as the next head coach.
