Arrest made after man's death at hotel in County Laois

A man has been arrested following the death of a man in his 60s at a hotel in County Laois in the Republic of Ireland.

Gardaí (Irish Police) said they were called to the hotel just before 8pm local time on Tuesday.

Irish broadcaster RTÉ has ​​reported that the property is a Ballyfin Demensea five-star hotel set on a 614-acre estate near the Slieve Bloom mountains.

It said it was believed the arrested man, who is in his 30s, was traveling with the deceased.

The man was dead when officers arrived at the Ballyfin Demense property

Gardaí described the death as a fatal attack and said all circumstances surrounding the death were being investigated.

An operations center has been set up at Portlaoise Garda station and a family liaison officer has been appointed to assist the dead man's family.
