Flight attendant filming pilots landing in 'heavy rain' goes viral

A video from the cockpit of an airplane has surprised many Internet users by showing how pilots manage to land planes in heavy rain.

A video posted on TikTok by flight attendant @damailufta shows a plane landing at Sola Airport in Stavanger, Norway, in adverse conditions. The video has gone viral since it was posted on October 14, receiving over three million views and over 1,000 comments from captivated viewers.

“That was the day I learned that airplanes had windshield wiper blades,” the TikTok user said, showing her view from behind of the pilots in the cockpit as the wipers move quickly across the plane's front windows as it winds up prepared for landing.

Rain splashes onto the plane's window as the airport runway comes into view, the windshield wipers working hard to keep visibility clear. The one-minute clip revealed a few other things that happen during the landing of a flight, such as an audible countdown indicating how close the plane is to the ground and the large number Indicator lights flashed in front of and above the two pilots.

Stavanger is the third largest city in Norway and is located in the southwest of the Scandinavian country.

According to One Monroe Aerospace, a Florida company that stocks hardware for the aerospace industry, windshield wipers help pilots see better when flying in rainy conditions, but are mostly limited to commercial aircraft and smaller planes.

The global aviation industry is expected to have grown significantly by the end of 2024. Data from Statista shows that the number of flights operated by the global aviation industry is expected to reach 38.7 million by the end of the year, close to the pre-pandemic record of over 39 million in 2019.

People took to the comments on the flight attendant's video, with many expressing similar shock at what it looks like when a plane lands in heavy rain.

“These windshield wipers are fighting for their lives,” joked TikTok user Diego Franklin.

“This must be a joke, these CANNOT be the real windshield wipers?” @itskelseybitchh commented.

“With all the technology being put into a plane, it seems like they bought the windshield wipers from Advanced Auto Parts,” another TikToker, Salvatore, wrote.

“It's scary to drive a car in this weather, let alone fly a plane,” said @Newbfingers.

“The windshield wipers deserve a round of applause,” joked Wyoming Elopements.
