Marion County is participating in National Prescription Drug Take Back Day

MARION COUNTY, Miss. (WDAM) – Marin County residents have a four-hour window Saturday to clean out kitchen cabinets and medicine cabinets.

The Marion County Sheriff's Office is participating in National Prescription Drug Take Back Day, a statewide, biannual initiative launched in 2016 by the Drug Enforcement Agency to give people a “safe, convenient and responsible way to dispose of prescription drugs.” Medications” to offer.

From 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, residents may drop off unused, unwanted or expired prescription medications at the Sheriff's Office, 219 Broad St., Columbia.

Items accepted for disposal include tablets, capsules, patches and other solid forms of prescription medications.

Liquid products, such as cough syrup, should remain sealed in the original container. The cap must be tightly closed to prevent leakage.

Items not accepted include syringes, sharp objects and illegal drugs.
