Wanted man charged with murder in Mississippi arrested in Lincoln

LINCOLN, Neb. (KOLN) – A routine traffic stop in Lincoln led to the arrest of a man wanted for murder in Mississippi, according to the Lancaster County Sheriff's Office.

Officers stopped 26-year-old Malek Stevenson on Monday after noticing one of his headlights on his vehicle was not working. During the stop, authorities discovered an active warrant out of Clarksdale, Mississippi, charging Stevenson with murder.

The arrest warrant, issued June 7, alleges Stevenson killed Larry Darnell Johnson on May 25. After the discovery, officers took Stevenson into custody without incident.

Stevenson now faces a felony fugitive from justice charge in Lincoln.

Stevenson is being held in the Lancaster County Jail awaiting extradition to Mississippi.
