At Least One Dead in Little Italy Shooting; Officer shot at second crime scene – NBC 7 San Diego

San Diego police were investigating a fatal shooting in broad daylight in San Diego's Little Italy neighborhood on Wednesday and a police-involved shooting a short time later.

Around 8:20 a.m., police were called to Ash and Union streets, near the Simone Little Italy apartment complex. Police confirmed that at least one person had died.

NBC 7's Audra Stafford and Jeanette Quezada are at the scene of a shooting in Little Italy.

Don Stevenson told NBC 7 that he witnessed the incident near Ash Street

“I pulled up to a construction site,” Stevenson said, “a guy walked up to a car, shot … two people and ran.”

About an hour later, there was a large police presence at a second crime scene about a mile away in the 2200 block of Kettner Boulevard, near Juniper Street. Harbor Police told NBC 7 that an officer was struck by gunfire during a shooting there, about a mile from the first shooting, and that a suspect was at that location.

San Diego police said at 10 a.m. they expected to hold a news conference with more information within an hour.

This is a developing story. Details may change as information is released.
